Mauricio Gutierrez has served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer since July 2010, overseeing NRG’s Plant Operations, Commercial Operations, Thermal, Environmental Compliance and Engineering, Procurement and Construction divisions. Gutierrez is responsible for ensuring NRG’s nearly 47,000 megawatt fleet operates at top levels of safety, performance and environmental compliance. His role overseeing NRG’s commodities trading helps maximize the Company’s financial performance through increasingly volatile energy commodity markets. Prior to this role, he served at NRG as Executive Vice President, Commercial Operations and as Senior Vice President, Commodities Trading. Prior to NRG, Gutierrez held various positions with Dynegy Inc., including Managing Director for the Southeast and Texas regions and Senior Trader for east power. Gutierrez holds a bachelor’s degree from Universidad Panamericana and two master’s degrees—in mineral economics from the Colorado School of Mines and petroleum economics from the French Petroleum Institute.
