NRG Energy Receives Platts ''Energy Company of the Year'' and ''Industry Leadership'' Awards

November 30, 2007 at 4:16 PM EST

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 30, 2007--NRG Energy, Inc. (NYSE:NRG) received two of the industry's highest honors last night at the Platts Global Energy Awards ceremony, held in New York City. The Company was recognized by the judges for vision, environmental responsibility, overall financial performance and energy strategy--taking home the "Industry Leadership" and "Energy Company of the Year" awards.

"We are truly honored to receive these prestigious awards," said David Crane, President and CEO of NRG Energy, Inc. "It represents a phenomenal achievement by the men and women of NRG over the past few years."

The annual Platt's Global Energy Awards are the energy industry's premier honor. The Energy Company of the Year Award--the highest honor of the night--is presented at the judges' discretion to the company that demonstrates "all-around excellence in executing a total energy strategy." According to Platts, NRG received the award because, "the judges were very impressed by NRG's breadth of endeavor: its management excellence, coupled with incisive strategy and an unparalleled sense of corporate responsibility."

When bestowing the Industry Leadership award on NRG, Platts judges singled out NRG's filing with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission--the first in 29 years--for an application to build two new nuclear units at its South Texas Project as a defining reason. "NRG's commitment to helping to solve any eventual global warming crisis is streets ahead of much of the competition: the company has put its money where its mouth is, planning a transformation of its generating assets to conform with its vision of a low-cost, low-emissions future."

In accepting this award on behalf of NRG, David Crane noted the "critical contribution of the South Texas Power Company to the success of the new nuclear development at STP and also the extraordinary track record of the American nuclear power industry over the past 25 years."
