Reliant Offers Summer Relief with Beat the Heat Centers, Assistance Programs

June 2, 2014 at 2:15 PM EDT

– Nearly $8 Million in Energy Assistance Provided to Customers Since 2005 –

HOUSTON; June 2, 2014 — With the promise of another sweltering Texas summer, Reliant continues its dedication to the well-being of its customers and local communities, offering several summer assistance programs, including Reliant Beat the Heat Centers in Houston, Dallas and Corpus Christi, bill payment assistance, and flexible payment options. Since 2005, Reliant has contributed nearly $8 million through its CARE energy assistance program to help those Texans who need help managing summer electricity costs.

“Since 2005, we’ve made community assistance during hot summer months a top priority, working closely with city leaders to bring relief from the Texas heat for Reliant customers and for anyone who may need a helping hand,” said Elizabeth Killinger, President of NRG Texas Retail and Reliant. “Whether providing an opportunity for residents to stay cool and safe in one of our Beat the Heat Centers or offering financial assistance to help those most in need with their electricity costs, it is our hope that these efforts improve the well-being of our neighbors and the communities our customers call home.”

Beat the Heat Centers are open now until October 3rd. In addition to air-conditioned spaces, center guests can stay busy with activities and enjoy light snacks. Select centers also provide opportunity for children to actively learn more about energy. This is the ninth consecutive year Reliant has supported centers in Houston and the fifth consecutive year in Corpus Christi and Dallas.
